What's Wrong with My Remote? Common Problems & Fixes
Why is My Motor Completely Dead (No LED Light)
Quick Answer: A dead battery causes most remote failures. All modern Gliderol remotes require two CR2016 3V lithium batteries.
What to check first:Â
- Replace Both Batteries: Most Gliderol remotes use two CR2016 3V lithium cells.Â
- Check Battery Orientation: Ensure the positive (+) side is facing the correct direction as per the remote’s design.Â
- Test the LED: Press any button. You should see a small red light indicating it has power.Â
If the remote is still unresponsive after inserting fresh batteries, it may need to be replaced.

Why Does My Remote Only Work Intermittently or Up Close?

Quick Answer: This indicates a weak battery signal or radio frequency interference. Replace the batteries first, then check for anything that could be blocking the signal.Â
Common Causes & Fixes:
Â
- Weak Battery Signal: Even if the remote’s LED lights up, the batteries may be too weak to send a strong signal. The fix is to replace both CR2016 batteries.Â
- Radio Frequency Interference: New electronic devices in or near your garage can disrupt the remote’s signal. Common sources of interference include new LED lights, security cameras, and smart home devices. To find the source, temporarily turn off any new electronic devices one by one and test your remote after each one. Once you identify the device causing interference, the fix is to move it further away, plug it into a different power outlet, or replace it with a higher quality alternative.Â
Why Does the Remote Light Work, But the Door Won't Respond?
Quick Answer: The remote has likely lost its programming and needs to be resynced with your motor.
This commonly happens after a power outage or when replacing the batteries in the remote. To fix this, you will need to reprogram your remote using the model specific instructions below.

This unit can store up to 10 individual handsets. Â

When to Call a Professional
Quick Answer: If you have tried all the troubleshooting and programming steps above and your remote still won’t work, it’s time to contact your local Gliderol dealer for a professional diagnosis.
While most remote issues are simple to fix, some problems point to a deeper issue with the motor’s internal receiver.
We recommend calling an expert technician when:Â
- The programming steps fail to work after several attempts.Â
- Multiple remotes, which you know have fresh batteries, will not connect to the motor.
- You suspect the motor’s internal receiver board might be faulty.
- You are not comfortable performing any of the troubleshooting steps.Â

Security & Special Features
What Should I Do If I've Lost a Remote?
Quick Answer: For security, you must erase all remote codes from your motor’s memory immediately, then reprogram only the remotes you still have.
This is an important security step. Anyone who finds the lost remote can access your garage until the memory is cleared. Â
Â
Follow the model specific “Erasing All Remotes” instructions above. Â

How Do I Use Vacation Mode?
Quick Answer: Vacation Mode locks out all remote signals, preventing the door from being opened by a transmitter. This feature is perfect for when you’re away for an extended period.
To Activate
On your remote, press and hold the STOP & CLOSE keys at the same time for 3 seconds. Â
To Deactivate
Press and hold the same two keys again for 3 seconds. Â

Can Someone Copy My Remote's Signal?
Quick Answer: No. Modern Gliderol remotes use rolling code security, which is virtually impossible to copy.Â
Rolling code technology means the security code changes with every use from billions of possible combinations, making older “code grabbing” techniques useless.

Remote Battery Replacement
How Do I Change the Batteries in My Remote?

Quick Answer: Most Gliderol keyring remotes require two CR2016 3V lithium batteries.Â
These are commonly available at supermarkets and hardware stores.Â
Follow these simple steps to replace the batteries in your remote:Â
- Â Remove the small screw on the back of the remote and gently pry the case open.Â
- Remove the two old batteries and replace them with two new CR2016 3V batteries, ensuring the positive (+) side is oriented correctly.Â
- Snap the case back together and replace the screw. You do not need to reprogram the remote after a battery change.Â
Frequently Asked Questions
My wall button works, but my remote doesn't. What's the problem
Quick Answer: This is good news as it means your motor is working perfectly. The issue is isolated to the remote or the signal between the remote and the motor.Â
If your wall mounted control operates the door, it confirms the motor is fine. Go back and try the steps in the “Troubleshooting Common Remote Problems” section, starting with replacing the remote’s batteries and then attempting to reprogram it.Â
How long should the batteries in my remote last?
Quick Answer: You can typically expect 18-24 months of battery life with normal daily use. Â
Factors like how often you use the door, extreme temperatures (leaving a remote in a hot car), and the quality of the batteries can all affect how long they last. We recommend buying multipacks of CR2016 batteries, so you always have spares.Â
Will a new Gliderol remote work with my old motor?
Quick Answer: Not always. Modern G+ remotes with rolling code technology are not compatible with much older Gliderol motors that used a fixed code system.Â
If your motor is more than 15-20 years old, a new remote may not be compatible. The best way to ensure you get the right remote is to contact your local dealer with your motor’s model type. They can provide a compatible remote or suggest a receiver upgrade.Â
Can I use a universal remote with my Gliderol motor?
Quick Answer: We strongly advise against it. Universal remotes often lack the rolling code security of genuine Gliderol remotes and may not be compatible.Â
For your security and to ensure reliable operation, always purchase genuine Gliderol remotes from a Gliderol dealer. This guarantees compatibility and maintains the high security features of your system.Â
My remote got wet. Can it be saved?
Quick Answer: Possibly, but water damage is often permanent. Immediately open the case, remove the batteries, and let all components dry completely for at least 24-48 hours.Â
Do not press any buttons while it is wet. Once fully dry, insert fresh batteries and test it. If it doesn’t work, it will need to be replaced. Â
